Colossians 1: 25 – To complete the word of God

… in accord with the administration of God, which is granted to me for you, to complete the word of God – the secret which has been concealed from the eons and from the generations, yet now was made manifest to His saints.

A secret that had always been hidden has been revealed to Paul. He has also been given control over this and that means that he would also make this revealed secret public to God’s saints. These are those who have been set apart by God. Paul worked for this with great zeal and great struggle (1:29).

Revealing the secret to God’s saints is synonymous with fulfilling the word of God among you. To fulfill means: to make full and therefore also to complete. Fill in what is missing. This is the administration given to Paul. God’s word was incomplete until the secret was made public.

Paul completed the word of God by not only speaking about the mystery but even more by recording it. As he writes in Romans 16 about the secret “hushed in times eonian, yet manifested now, and through prophetic scriptures…”. Through that labor we can still learn today the colossal secret that was revealed to Paul!
