Colossians 1: 17 – All has its cohesion in Him

The Son is the personification of the word of God (Rev. 19:13), and as such He is before all things. In the beginning the word was, while all things came into being through the word (John 1:1-3). But the Son is not only the explanation of the origin of all things; He is also the explanation of the existence of all things.
The word that Paul uses for ‘cohesion’ (Gr. sunistao) is made up of the elements ’together’ and ‘standing’. The Greek word indicates that things are not separate from each other, but that they are ‘coherent’. Everything is connected and the connecting factor is the Son. His person gives ‘cohesion’ to all creation.
Not only does all of Scripture testify of Christ, but all of creation also points to Him. He is the center that gives stability to everything together. The firmament and all the constellations testify of the seed of the woman who will bruise the head of the serpent. Yes, all of creation speaks typologically of what God accomplishes in Christ. The seasons and every detail in living nature illustrate the truth of life coming from death. “All has its cohesion in Him”!
