Colossians 1: 13 – Rescued out of the jurisdiction of darkness

… giving thanks to the Father, Who makes you competent for a part of the allotment of the saints, in light, Who rescues us out of the jurisdiction of darkness and transports us into the kingdom of the Son of His love…

The allotment that will soon befall the saints is located in the sphere of light. This is in sharp contrast to the darkness in which the world currently finds itself and in which we were previously a part. Just as light represents the Word (John 1:4), darkness symbolizes the sphere in which this light is lacking. The nations “are walking in the vanity of their mind, their comprehension being darkened, being estranged from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them” (Eph.4:18). The current evil eon is dominated by “the world-mights of this darkness” (Eph.6:12). That is called here “the jurisdiction of darkness”. The fact that it is called ‘power of attorney’ indicates that dominion has been given to the world mights (Gr. cosmocrats). The power belongs to them to the extent and as long as God allows it.

“The jurisdiction of darkness” in this world is (thank God!) temporary. The current eon is coming to an end and will definitively have to make way for the reign of “the Son of God’s love”!
