Colossians 1: 11 – Endurance, patience and joy

10-09-2024 - Posted by Hans

..Being endued with all power, in accord with the might of His glory for all endurance and patience with joy; at the same time giving thanks to the Father…

The words “being endued with all power” and “the might of his glory” are limitless and promising. They become very concrete when Paul names three qualities that work out this Divine power from within. “all endurance and patience with joy.”

To endure means the ability to undergo , trouble pressure and suffering. This quality is very close to that of patience. Patience means that even if trouble and suffering last longer than expected or hoped, one can still persevere. Those who endure and are patient know how to maintain calm and tranquility despite the heavy pressure of circumstances.

The three qualities that God “empowers with all power” are downright superhuman. This is evident from the combination in which they are called: “endurance and patience with joy.” Calmness and tranquility in the midst of misery and frustration are rare qualities in themselves. But in combination with “joy” certainly no one can achieve this on their own. Impossible. Thank goodness that’s not expected or asked for either. For it is GOD who “in accord with the might of his glory” empowers this. He brings joy even in the most difficult circumstances. What no man is able to do, He is able to do!
