1Corinthians 1:21 – God’s contrarian approach
13-11-2018 - Posted by Andre PietFor since, in fact, in the wisdom of God, the world, through wisdom knew not God, God delights, through the stupidity of the heralding to save those who are believing.
It is God’s wisdom that the world did not know God by its wisdom. If there was one city where one might expect wisdom, it was Jerusalem. There the spiritual elite the scriptures of God. They were entrusted with the scriptures given by God. There they studied constantly end through endless debates this knowledge was sharpened. But when the Messiah came to which they were looking forward, they did not recognize him and even delivered him up to be crucified.
Since the wisdom of the world was unable to know God, God is pleased to take a completely contrary approach. He now gives a message that is completely ridiculous and unlikely in the eyes and the ears of the learned, academic world. To understand this preaching does not help when you are academically educated. Certainly, learned people can understand it. But not thanks to, but despite their scholarship.
The preaching is about someone for whom the religious, learned and political world only reserved a cross. From there God’s wisdom begins.
