1 Corinthians 6:11 – and some of you were these

In the previous verses Paul provided us a glimpse into the composition and the background of the Corinthian ecclesia. He spoke about paramours, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, swindlers, drunkards, slanderers and robbers. Some of the Corinthians know out of experience. In the meantime they had left these practices behind them.
They weren’t changed by practice or therapy. It was the powerful Word of GOD, which came to them and bathed off their thoughts clean. A real ‘brainwash’! The words “hallowed” and “justified” in this sentence are written in the passive form. It means: it happened to them. It was GOD who hallowed them; i.e. He set them apart. And GOD made them justified in his eyes. Indeed, “in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ”. The name Jesus is: “YAHWEH is Saviour”! Without conditions. “Each in his own class”. What a cleaning, hallowing and justifying power is in that name! That’s the secret of true transformation.
