Ephesians 1:18 – The eyes enlightened

07-04-2018 - Posted by Andre Piet

the eyes being enlightened for you to perceive what is the expectation of His calling and what the riches of the glory of the enjoyment of His allotment among the saints…

This is not the language of a lecture hall. No, Paul is much more like a guide who enthusiastically points something out to his group. In the first part of this chapter he wrote about what Christ’s calling is and what his allotment (inheritance) is. And how believers share “in him”. You must first perceive that.

But from that point, Paul’s prayer begins. It is his prayer that his readers not only know what his calling is, but that they would see what the hope of his calling is. And that they would not only know what his allotment is, but they would perceive the richness of the glory of his allotment.

The things Paul writes about are all hidden. Nothing can be seen with the eyes of our heads now. That is why Paul prays for enlightened eyes of the heart. That the light of God’s word would shine in our hearts, giving view of the hope and riches of so much glory. That makes a person shine from the inside!
